I'm happy to announce a new benefit for qualifying seniors, 65 and older. It is through a partnership with Grouper, a company that contracts with Medicare Advantage and Supplemental plans. Many of these plans recognize that keeping seniors active helps to keep them healthy and reduces their healthcare costs. Grouper works with membership organizations such as the AGA and many others including USChess and the American Contract Bridge League to supply paid benefits to seniors who are enrolled in one of their contracted Medicare plans, and they in turn get paid by the Medicare plans for keeping seniors healthy.
The benefit for active members is $50 on signing up and $20 a quarter after that. Current AGA members who belong to one of the plans that Grouper contracts with are eligible. We have a page where you can find out more details and also click to their site to see if you are eligible. If your plan is not listed, you can ask to be notified should your plan get added. Look for details here: Grouper.
Signing up if you are elgible is entirely voluntary. We had several sessions with Grouper before partnering with them to assure us that they were a quality organization that lived up to our standards of respecting data privacy. We also talked to the leadership of USChess who were positive about them as well. They will have a table for two days at the upcoming US Go Congress in Portland. You can ask them questions there and get assistance if needed in enrolling.
If you have senior friends who play Go and are not current AGA members please let them know that they can get a benefit that will more than cover the cost of membership. Helping the AGA grow and getting paid too is a win-win all around.
