A solid success and driver of new membership, the North American Online League (NAOL) is finishing its 6th 2-month season since starting out in January 2023.
Players are grouped by skill level in groups of six and play a round-robin of weekly games, many of which are then reviewed and analyzed by top players, including new reviewers Alex Qi, and Zhaonian Michael Chen. Play and reviews are free to AGA members; signup for the next season will begin mid-December.
The EJ will be profiling key figures in the NAOL in a new series this week; today’s featured player is NAOL TD Milan Mladenovic. Originally from Serbia, Milan grew up playing chess daily with his twin brother and father, and was introduced to Go 10 years ago, shortly after moving to the U.S. Since then he has been active in both teaching and organizing Go-related events in the Boston area. Over the last decade, Milan’s primary focus and passion has been to build a community around Go; he’s the co-founder and education director of Massachusetts Go Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to furthering Go education. In addition to Go, Milan has studied philosophy at the University of Novi Sad in Serbia, and is also a musician offering guitar lessons to beginners. "Go is a metaphor for life,” says Milan, “if you're good at Go, you're probably good at life."
