BOARD N'STONES, the English-language branch of primarily German-language Go books publisher Brett und Stein Verlag, has released four new titles this year; here’s a rundown.
In the collection Banri Ikku: Under One Sky, Ohashi Hirofumi 6P has gathered some of the most interesting Go problems he’s composed. Ohashi’s been fascinated by Go problems since, at the age of 10, he first got his hands on Hatsuyoron, Dosetsu Inseki Inoue’s famous problem collection. When he looked at the problems inside, it was as if a current of electricity ran through him; the originality of the shapes and the vividness of the move sequences born from them felt like an explosion of art. From that day, composing go problems has been an integral part of Ohashi‘s life.
Other new titles from BOARD N' STONES this year include A Step A Day to Improve, the second volume of the Go Seigen's famous Tsume Go collection. The Thirty-Six Stratagems by Dai Junfu 8d illustrates tactics used in warfare with examples from Go games, including some of his own games played against top European players, as well as top professional games from Asia and Europe, providing insight into how strong players think and make decisions.
BOARD N’STONES has also released a special edition of Colette Bezio’s Aji’s Quest, “the true story of a young Quoll who wants to become a great master of the game of Go.”
