Hello!
Today, I am writing about the CGA Summer Go Camp (August 17th-22nd, 2025)
The camp started in 2019. From 2019 to 2024, the number of rooms available was limited, so we weren’t able to promote it much through the AGA. However, I’m excited to share the good news that this year, we’ll have access to significantly more rooms, making this announcement even more joyful!
As an instructor at the camp, I was involved in its initial design.
Back in 2018, I attended the USGC held in Williamsburg, Virginia, with my Canadian friend, Pierre-Yves. On our way back to Canada, we talked about how great it would be to create a camp where people could grow closer over several days, rather than the usual weekend tournaments. We collaborated with James, the CGA president, and launched the camp in 2019. Since then, it has been held every year, making this year its 7th edition!
The location is the Juvence Resort in Orford Mountain, near Montreal, and it’s truly a breathtaking spot.
Because we’re in such an amazing environment, we have free time after lunch until dinner. During this time, All the participants, myself included, join in various sports and activities together, getting closer to each other.
But don’t think that this means we do less Go-related activities! Every morning and evening, there are dedicated Go activities.
Here’s the schedule—it hasn’t changed since the very first year.
When it comes to Go, we aim to invite two professional players as instructors each year.
In the first year, it was me and Mok Jinseok 9p. Since then, we’ve been fortunate to host players like Ryan Li 4p, Stephanie Yin 1p, Cho Yeonwoo 2p, and Song Hye-ryoung 3p, among others.
These professionals not only review games and give lectures after the morning matches, but they also participate in evening events, spending quality time with the participants. Many of them have expressed a strong desire to return to our camp in the future!

One unique feature of our camp is that we have a large number of family participants.
Even for those who don’t participate in Go activities, there are plenty of enjoyable things to do, making it a favorite spot for other family members. And the food? It’s absolutely delicious!
I couldn’t participate in the camp from 2021 to 2023 because I was in Korea. However, after returning to Canada in the summer of 2024, I rejoined the camp, and I plan to be part of it every year going forward!
Another unique feature of our camp is the high number of returning participants. Many people who join once come back year after year. In fact, we even have participants who’ve attended for six consecutive years!
Now, let me share more photos from the camp.
