EGF Team Scores a Win, Ending Transatlantic Team Match With NAGF Ahead 2-1

Hajin Lee | Published on 10/10/2023

The European Go Federation (EGF) team brought an invaluable 2-1 win in the last round, avoiding a total sweep. With this final round result, the Transatlantic Professional Go Team Championship 2023 concluded with a 2-1 victory for the North American Go Federation (NAGF) team.

The biggest surprise of the round came from the first board, where Artem Kachanovskyi 2P defeated Ryan Li 4P (game), the current North American Professional Champion. On the second board, Ali Jabarin 2P won against Eric Lui 2P, grabbing a chance in a center Ko fight (game), which secured a win for the team. Alexander Qi 1P, who played for the first time this tournament, defeated Poland’s Stanislaw Frejlak 1P on the third board (game). More details about the tournament results can be found here.

All three games were streamed live on the EGF Twitch channel (here) with commentary by Andrii Kravets 1P and Michael Chen 1P.

The Transatlantic Professional Go Team Championship 2023 was sponsored by the Iwamoto North American Foundation for Go, and co-organized by the NAGF and the EGF. Details for the next edition of the tournament are yet to be announced.
