Young players from around the world gathered at Honolulu’s Pagoda Hotel July 25–August 1 for the inaugural Hawaii Go Camp.
Designed primarily for players ages 6–18 ranging in strength from 25-kyu to 5-kyu, the international camp combined Go instruction and play with opportunities to learn about Asian culture, make new friends and enjoy Hawaii with their families.
A new video highlighting the 2026 camp captures some of the week’s key activities and includes interviews with all the participating children. Recorded during the camp’s final two days, the interviews give the young players an opportunity to share their own impressions of the experience.
Organizers hope the camp will introduce Go—also known as Baduk, Weiqi and Igo—to more young people each year while building lasting friendships within the international Go community. Planning for the next camp is already underway, with organizers reviewing feedback from children and parents to improve the program.
