Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, will host the 8th Latin American Go Congress October 30–
November 3, bringing together players from across the region for tournaments, professional instruction and cultural activities on Colombia’s Caribbean coast.
At the center of the Congress will be the 26th Ibero-American Go Championship, a six-round McMahon tournament open to players of all levels. Two rounds will be played each day from Saturday, October 31, through Monday, November 2.
The program will also include the final of the 10th Pandanet Latin American Team Championship, with Chile facing Mexico for the title; the 8th Latin American Pair Go Championship; and the 7th Latin American Youth Championship.
Four professional players are scheduled to provide lectures, game reviews and simultaneous games: two from the AGA with funding from the AGF, Kim Yoonyoung 8p and Quyou Wu, 1P, who just earned his status at the 2026 North American Professional Qualification Tournament and two from China, Wu Zitian 3p and Zhang Nianqi 2p. The AGA is also sending Eric Wainright as the AGA team leader to carry the message of support for go in this hemisphere.
Events will be held at the Hotel Caribe by Faranda Grand in Bocagrande, near the Caribbean Sea and Cartagena’s historic walled city. The Congress opens Friday, October 30, with registration and an optional opening banquet. Competition and instructional activities run through November 2, followed by an optional guided tour of Cartagena on November 3.
Early registration is available through August 31 for $130, increasing to $150 afterward. Registration includes all Congress activities, three buffet lunches and a permanent coffee station. Discounted rates are available for members of the Asociación Colombiana de Go, women and players under 18. Lodging, the opening banquet and guided tour are separate.
Congress participants can receive a 15% discount on the public room rate at the Hotel Caribe, with more economical accommodations available nearby at the Hotel Playa Club. Organizers can also help coordinate transportation from the Cartagena airport with advance notice.
