The American Go Association Board of Directors has selected Jonas Acres as the organization's next President. His term will begin on September 14, 2026.
In announcing its decision, the Board cited Acres' experience as Executive Director of BikePAC of Oregon, a mid-sized nonprofit focused on motorcycle advocacy, as well as his extensive background in grassroots organizing and volunteer leadership. The Board also highlighted his involvement with the U.S. Go Congress in Portland, his focus on volunteer organization, chapter relations, and donor development, and what it described as a clear vision for the AGA's executive team and future growth.
According to the Board's statement, Acres demonstrated strong executive-level communication throughout the selection process, a collaborative approach to working with the Board, and a modern vision for the AGA's brand identity. The Board also noted his commitment to building on the work of current President Gurujeet Khalsa and fellow candidate Devin Fraze.
"It is a tremendous honor to be chosen to serve as AGA President," Acres said. "I intend to work with our immensely talented community to align the AGA with the changes technology has driven, and to find the best ways to share the magic of Go with new friends and old."
Khalsa welcomed the transition and pledged his support to the incoming president.
"Serving as AGA President has been one of the great honors of my life," Khalsa said. "I'm deeply grateful to everyone who has contributed their time, energy, and passion to our community over the years. Jonas brings valuable experience and fresh ideas to the role, and I look forward to working with him to build on the progress we've made together."
The Board also expressed its gratitude to Khalsa for his decade of leadership service to the Association, including four years as President and six years as Chair of the Board.
"The Board wishes to note their gratitude for Gurujeet's four years of dedicated service as President and six years of service as the AGA's Chairman of the Board," the statement said. "We are fully committed to continued collaboration with Gurujeet."
The Board further noted that Khalsa's tenure included both significant challenges and important achievements, emphasizing that the decision should not be viewed as a reflection on his continued value to the organization.
Acres will assume the presidency following the conclusion of Khalsa's term in September. The Board indicated that it looks forward to working with Acres, Khalsa, and the broader go community as the Association enters its next chapter.
