Chicago Open Returns to Evanston Memorial Day Weekend

Chris Garlock | Published on 3/5/2026

The Chicago Open will return to Evanston, Illinois on May 23–24, once again taking place at the Evanston Holiday Inn over Memorial Day weekend.

Now in its fourth year at the venue, the two-day tournament will feature seven AGA-rated games, offering one of the most competitive weekend Go events in the United States for players of all levels.

This year marks a new chapter for the event: the Chicago Open and Chicago Rapid will now be hosted by the newly established NextMove Foundation, an Illinois nonprofit dedicated to promoting the game of Go, in partnership with the Evanston Go Club.

Early-bird registration (through May 3) is $85 for the Open Division (5D+) and $65 for the Main Division (18K–4D). A Youth Beginner section on Saturday is free. Additional discounts are available for youth players, groups, and returning participants.

Sponsors include Downtown Evanston, Baduk Club, Go Magic, OGS, and Yellow Mountain Imports, with additional support from Matthew Harwit, founder of PlayGo.gg, a new platform for playing and learning Go.
