On January 31 and February 1, 2026, the Houston Go Club hosted a pair of workshops led by Go
professional Ryan Li 4P of the New York Institute of Go. The weekend featured simultaneous games, game reviews, and focused lectures, with an emphasis on improving middle game efficiency.
The two days were structured to serve different audiences. The first workshop was designed for newer players and double-digit kyu players, while the second targeted single-digit kyu and low-dan players. Among the many takeaways, Houston Go Club Chapter Leader Michael Bloom highlighted Ryan Li’s advice to think in terms of “points per move” when choosing where to play—a practical framework that resonated with participants across skill levels.
The workshops were held at the Chinese Community Center of Houston, a current collaboration partner of the Houston Go Club, which provided the venue at a discounted rate.
Partial funding for the events came from the American Go Foundation through its Visiting Professional grant program.
The Houston Go Club extended thanks to NYIG, AGF, and the Chinese Community Center of Houston for their support in making the workshops possible.
