This weekend’s Canadian Go Open – the 48th -- is shaping up to be one of the most exciting in
the tournament’s storied history, with the largest champion prize in nearly five decades—over $1,500—and a strong lineup of high-level players already registered.
Set for June 28–30 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, this year’s tournament will feature a 90-minute main time control per player, the longest in recent Canadian Open memory, promising deep, thoughtful play across the board.
More than 105 players have already signed up, including eight 6-dans, five 7-dans, and one 8-dan, making for a highly competitive top division. In total, the event will include nine or more divisions by rank, ensuring exciting and fair matchups for players of all levels. Prizes will be awarded to the top three players in each division.
Hosted by the Halifax Go Club and the Canadian Go Association, the tournament will take place in an air-conditioned venue in Halifax, a scenic coastal city known for its rich maritime history and pleasant summer weather. Organizers promise a memorable experience for players and families alike, with commemorative T-shirts and participation certificates for all who register.
