Kwan told the excited — and tired — hall full of 120 competitors as the 2025 New York State Championship drew to a close late Sunday afternoon. “Thank you all for coming out and 
playing so hard.” Michael Chen 1P fended off tough competition to win the tournament 6-0, including a half-point win over fellow pro Alex Qi 1P in round 3 and a 1.5-point win over Dohyup Kim 7D in the fourth round. Jeremy Chiu 7D was second in the Open section and Alex Qi 1P was third. Shiyu Fan 5D (left) won the New York State Championship title as the highest-placing state resident.
