The February cold seeped into the New York Go Institute and kept players bundled up but the on-
board action was blazing hot in the 2025 New York State Championship’s first three rounds Saturday. Check out the EJ’s livestream here.
In the Open section, Michael Chen 1P, Jeremy Chiu 7D and Shiyu Fan 5D were undefeated atop a field of 22.
In the A section (28 players), 3-0 winners were Chase Lin 4D, Max Fuller 2D and Ping Yen 1D. B section 3-0 winners were Binghui Chen 1k and Hermann Fan 4k (22 players).In the C section (19 players), Micah Steinberg 6k, Andi Li 7k and Les Honig 10k were undefeated. D section 3-0 players were Albert Chang 11k, Tiffany Wang 13k, William Allen 13k and Anida Yu 14k (17 players). In the E section, Arlon Wang 18k was the only 3-0 player, out of 12 players. The E-Journal streamed the top three boards on both its YouTube and Twitch channels, utilizing the AGA’s IZIS electronic game recording boards, with Yixian Zhou 6D and Michael Fodera 5D providing live, insightful and entertaining commentary. Todd Heidenreich managed the boards while Chris Garlock produced the stream.
