In an exciting development for the youth Go community, the US Go Congress is offering free registration for participants 17 or younger at the congress July 12-20 in Austin, Texas.
This initiative aims to lower financial barriers and encourage more young players to experience one of the most prestigious events in the annual Go calendar. The free registration is made possible by a generous grant from the American Go Foundation (AGF) and is available to all those who register by May 1. “The kids are the future of Go.” said Terry Benson, AGF President. “There’s no better place to spend the money we get from the Go community.”
In addition to free registration, under-18 registrants from North America can also receive an additional $200 scholarship from the AGF by participating in any one of the Redmond Cup, Girls Cup, North American Kyu Championship, Young Lions, or School Team tournaments.
For those aged 18 to 26, the AGF also offers a “College” Scholarship for those enrolled in any educational program. The amount has been raised this year to $300 from $200 last year to equal the Congress registration fee.
The free youth registration and $300 “college” scholarship will cover all regular Congress activities, including teaching sessions, game reviews, tournaments, and evening events.
Travel, accommodation, and meals remain the responsibility of attendees.
Registration for Congress will be opening soon; stay tuned for details.
