San Diego Go Club finds a new home

Chris Garlock | Published on 1/12/2025

The San Diego Go Club, which has had only two homes in the last 25 years, moved to a new gathering place last week.

The place's name remains the same, "At Ease Game," but it has moved to larger quarters .8-mile away from the previous address, still on Miramar Road: 8400 Miramar Road, Suite 250, San Diego, CA 92126. SDGC will be meeting at "At Ease Games" every Thursday from 7-11 p.m. Boards and stones are provided for the players. Player strengths are from beginners (free lessons) to 7-dans. All ages are welcome.

The new "At Ease Games" is more than twice the size of the old one and has a separate room just for SDGC (see attachment). There is plenty of free parking. There are several other rooms reserved for war board games and games like Dungeons and Dragons. There is even a full kitchen.

The San Diego Go Club, which is over 50-years old, used to meet in homes, libraries, and schools. Then it spent 25-years at Twiggg's coffee shop, where it was allowed to store go boards and stones, until Covid. Since Covid, SDGC has been meeting at "At Ease Games" and holding its large tournaments at the San Diego Chess Club in Balboa Park.

SDGC is holding the 5th annual California Over-65 Go Championship at the home of SDGC Chapter Representative, Ted Terpstra, on Sunday, January 19, 2025 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. All seniors are invited to enter but only California residents can win the title in this 3-round handicap tournament. There is no entry fee. Lunch and drinks will be provided. Click here for full information and registration. Board  #1 will be played in the "Go Room," (photo) which holds an 800-year old Kaya wood board with legs with slate and shell stones. The Go Room also holds the 900-volume (all in English) SDGC Go Library.
NOTE: This post has been updated; the Over-65 Go Championship will be held January 19 (not Feb 19).
