Half-point win clinches 13th Virginia Go Open title for Jeremy Chiu

Jeremy Chiu edged Alan Huang by half a point in Round 6 to win the 13th Virginia Go Open, held December 14–15 in Annandale, VA. Both players represented the USA in international amateur championships last year.

Players battled through six intense rounds, with winners crowned across multiple divisions:

Open Division: 1st: Jeremy Chiu; 2nd: Alan Huang; 3rd: Yuxiao Wang

Division A: 1st: (Stephen) J Jung; 2nd: Austin Robinson

Division B: 1st: Juelz Kwan; 2nd: Andi Li

Senior’s (55+) Division: 1st: Scott Smith; 2nd: Liang Yu

Women’s Division: 1st: Mengran Wang; 2nd: Laura Wu

Youth Division: 1st: Jason Qi; 2nd: Caroline Li; 3rd: Wilson Qi


Special guests Ilryong Moon, board member of the Fairfax County Public Schools, and Gary Smith, president of the NOVA Go Club, presented awards to winners and talked about the school-club initiative and regular Go activities at the NOVA Go and the National Go Center.

Awards ceremony emcee was Xiaoyu Shi. Tournament Director James Lee and organizer Edward Zhang prepared medals, certificates and cash prizes.


The Virginia State Championship seeks AGA 5+ Dan Virginia residents for the January 2025 event. Interested players should email agatd1@gmail.com by January 10 to compete.
