Friendly competition and challenge coins at Austin tournament

Chris Garlock | Published on 4/25/2024

The Austin Go Club’s early-April Go tournament attracted 40 participants from all over Texas and neighboring states for friendly competition; winners were awarded locally-designed challenge coins.

ZhiXun (Troy) Zhao 7D won all of his matches and showed strong play in the open division with his strategic and precise moves on the board, earning him the title of tournament champion. In the low single digit kyu category, Chih-Yuan Huang claimed the first place, while Jason Miller and Brian Chen triumphed in the high single digit kyu and double digit kyu divisions, respectively. Each of the top three winners in each category was awarded challenge coins designed by local club member Alden Tarver.

“The Austin Go Club organized a welcoming and enjoyable tournament, providing a platform for players of diverse backgrounds to exhibit their passion for the game,” reports Chih-Yuan Huang. “Alongside our regular weekly meetings and monthly library classes, we eagerly anticipate the success of next year's tournament.”
