Correct.
White 1 seems like the only chance. With Black 6,
White seems doomed. But White 7 is a fantastic move.
Black can capture 3 stones with 8, but see the next
diagram for the follow up.
White Continuation.
White recaptures with 9, and amazingly Black has no way
to take advantage of White's string of weak stones.
Black 10 is one possibility, but White is safe after 13,
and Black dies.

Black variation.
Black 2 makes White's life easy. Through 7, White
connects out. All the Black stones die.
