Problem diagram.
White plays.

Source:
Qi Jing Zhong Miao #149 , an ancient collection of mostly kyu level life and death problems. This problem is an interesting exercise in recognizing, making, and even proving(!) the existence of an eye.

Analysis:
   Myron Souris

Solution follows    (or click here to download SGF)

Correct.
White 1 is the vital spot.
(Download the SGF to play through more variations than those shown here.) Through 8, Black seemingly makes 2 eyes.

But with the subtle and nasty surprise of 9, White robs Black of any eyes in the corner! If Black does not respond to White 9 and insists that White has the burden of proving that his group is dead, White would simply fill all of Black's outside liberties, leaving only 1 internal liberty from the eye on the bottom edge.
See the next diagram for what would then happen in the corner.

Continuation.
Black 10 would then have to capture the 4 White stones. But White plays 11 to capture the 2 Black stones. Black can no longer argue. Black is dead.

White mistake.
White cannot simply connect out with 5. Through 8, Black has 2 eyes in the corner, not one or zero!

White mistake.
White has to be very careful about the proper move order. White 3 gives Black time to play at 4, which makes one eye immediately, and then makes a play at A or B miai for the second eye.
