Problem diagram.
White plays.

Analysis:

Solution follows    (or click here to download SGF)

Correct.
Black has to block with 2 after White 1. But then White 3 is the coup. After Black throws in with 6, White has a direct ko. But at least Black has some internal ko threats, viz., the first at A (to which White responds with B), the second at C (to which White responds at D), and then the last at E.

Failure.
White 1 is the wrong move order, but White 3 is a second mistake that throws away any form of ko. After 6, Black is alive.

Inferior.
White 1 is the wrong move order, but at least 3 gives White something. The throw in of Black 4 is a good move that almost lets Black live. Assuming that White has more ko threats, Black eventually has to play at 8. But after 9, White has to make an approach move at A before the ko becomes direct. So White 1 is a mistake that only leads to a 2-step ko.

White variation.
If White tries to avoid the previous diagram by throwing in with 7, Black simply captures with 8 and Black lives in double ko.
