Problem diagram.
Black's response to White's marked play?

Solution follows    (or click here to download SGF)

Correct.
Black 1 works perfectly with the other Black stones at the top to form a huge moyo. Through 5, Black continues to expand his moyo, and with White's side moyo open in the lower right corner, White is at a severe disadvantage.

Black has a large lead.

Wrong direction.
Taking territory in the top right corner with Black 1 is relatively small. Through 8, not only has White made a safe group inside Black's moyo, but also White makes miai of A (further reducing Black's potential at the top), and B (threatening to squash Black's right side invasion).

Wrong direction.
Black 1 cedes the upper right corner to White in return for attacking White's right side. White connects all the upper side stones with 2, so Black must cotinue the attack with 3 and 5. After 6 though, White's side group is also safe. And White 12 greatly reduces the territory that black might have made at the top.
