Solution follows    (or click here to download SGF)

Correct.
White 1 is a magnificent dual-purpose move. If Black defends the stone to the left with 1, White unleashes a well-known tesuji against the stones to the right. After 9, White has plenty of counterplay possibilities.

Black variation.
If Black defends the stones to the right with 2, this is one possible sequence with White capturing 2 Black stones on the bottom. And White's stones on the right still have aji.

Slack.
White 1 lets Black off the hook. Black simply descends. After Black 6, White's stones on the right have no aji, and the stones of the left are uncomfortable.
