Making an ugly empty triangle
with 1 is the only move that works!
White 3 and 5 seal Black's fate.
Failure.
White 1 is an innocent looking mistake.
Black 2 is a nasty surprise. After 5,
White has to fight an unfavorable ko.
Black variation.
Perhaps White was hoping for the
inferior Black 2? After 3, White
takes the corner. Oh, if opponents
would only do what you expected ...
