Solution follows    (or click here to download SGF)

Correct.
Black should have forced at 1 first. White would probably respond with 2, after which the aji from Black 1 allows Black A to reduce the side moyo.

In the game, Black did not play at 1, and White got 50+ points on the left side.

If White plays at B instead, Black C not only is sente, but also removes White aji in the area.

Too slow.
Black 1 misses the key sente move above, but in the game White answers in kind with the slow move at 2. After Black surrounds the bottom with 5, White does not have a chance to win.

White variation.
White 2 is the correct response after Black's slow move. White has no risk of losing this stone. After White 8, the game is still up for grabs.

Black variation.
If Black tries the local shape move at 3 instead, White has good prospects after 4.
