Solution follows    (or click here to download SGF)

Correct.
White 1 and 3 are bizarre. In the problem diagram, Black already seemed to have more than enough eye space. White seems to be helping Black even more!

This problem illustrates a little known go proverb from the 3rd century:   Good eye space is like losing weight. It's not how big you are, it's what shape you're in.

Ahem... The next diagram shows the amazing continuation.
Download the SGF to see more variations than those presented here.

Continuation.
After Black makes the huge capture with 4, White 5 exposes the fatal weakness in Black's position, i.e., the entire right side of Black's eyespace is a false eye! Black 6 and 8 show one way that Black can try to create eye space. But through White 13, Black still only has one eye.

How can such beauty arise out of such a "simple" game?

Black variation.
Black 6 and 8 show another doomed attempt to create two eyes. After White 9, Black cannot avoid a bulky-5.

Incorrect.
White 1 fails. Black has smaller eye space, but better eye shape than the correct line. (Please refer to go proverb above.)

White can try to reduce Black's eye space with 3, but Black 4 and 6 are sufficient for making life.
