Maryland Open’s 48th edition promises battle of titans on Memorial Day Weekend

The highly anticipated Maryland Open is back for its 48th edition, set to take place just outside Baltimore on Memorial Day weekend, May 25th and 26th. Go enthusiasts from across the region are gearing up to register for this long-running event, hosted by the Baltimore Go Club.

Registration is open on the official tournament website, baltimoregoclub.org, where players can sign up to compete for sets of stones and bowls. Among the contenders is pro Michael Chen, defending his title and looking to join Eric Lui 1P as a five-time champion.

Last year's tournament saw intense matches, including a memorable face-off between Michael Chen and Alex Qi 1p. This year, both players are registered, promising another showdown of strategic brilliance.

The tournament will feature five rounds of play, with each player given 40 minutes to make their moves. Traditional byo yomi rules will add an extra layer of excitement to the matches.

While the competition will be fierce, prizes will be awarded in all sections. “Come play with the pros, but don’t worry, prizes will be given in all sections,” says organizer Keith Arnold.
